Ten Original Topics For Essay Writing
Many students complain that they do not have enough time to complete all the essays they have to write. Some students claim they don't have the skills to write good essays. And sometimes one of the reasons that some students are unhappy about the essay writing is simply down to the choice of topic. This can be crucial to so many students. If you choose the right type of topic, it means you can write about something you know about, or something you find really interesting or something you would like to know about. This is where motivation is born.
Finding original essay topics is both easy and difficult. It's easy because there are so many essay topics listed online you would be hard-pressed not to find something you wanted to write about. But if you are after an original idea, something which few if anyone has written about before, then that can be tricky. How do you know it's original?
Take a common topic and change it
Here is an example. Is the death penalty effective? This is a topic which has been written about in essay form for generations. There are clear arguments in favour and against this proposition. So it is not an original essay topic. But it could be with a little tinkering. It could be if you take this common topic and then change it. For example a variation of the topic would be, What would happen if the death penalty was abolished?
Another way to develop an original topic for your essay writing is to put on your thinking cap and look into the future. In your lifetime, many things have changed. Transport has changed, technology has changed, fashion has changed in so many other things have developed during your lifetime. Now imagine some aspect of your lifestyle being changed by a new development or invention in the future. It doesn't have to be 10 or 20 years in the future it could be next year, it could be next month. So straight away you have the opportunity to develop an original essay topic. Here are some examples.
- how I will travel in five years’ time
- how I will communicate in five years’ time
- the food I will eat in ten years’ time
Think of something highly controversial
There are a number of topics which many students will not tackle when writing an essay. If you can find or create a topic in this category and are prepared to write about it, you could very well be unique. For example corporal punishment in schools is banned. If you chose to mount an argument to say that it should be allowed under certain circumstances, you would not only be taking on a controversial subject, you would almost certainly be alone in doing so.
